Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is a book about the future of North America. In this book, North America is called Panem and it is divided into districts. The games are a tribute to the country and children are forced to fight against each other and victor is the last person standing in the fight. We chose a ticket to introduce the games and it’s setting to the viewers and to create an interest. This is a “gold class ticket” we have created for the Hunger Games. The ticket details the events and it has the map of the arena. The ticket makes the viewers realize that the game could go on indefinitely. We further chose quotes to show the significant aspects of the games. These quotes from Chapter 15 tells us a lot about Katniss, the main character of the story and her interaction with her friends, Reeta and Gale. Asuka and I also created imaginary IM tweets of how the players would communicate with each other in the games. This we thought would take the games closer to the readers and make them understand the characters in a short span of time. The tweets between Katniss and Rue provide glimpses of events occurring in the story and how they made an alliance. They talk about supplies they both had to survive the games. In doing this project we were able to appreciate the book more and I felt how hard it is to create a story. I hope these visual items that we have taken pains to create with vivid colours, different textures, images and text fonts will make you read the book too!

Luttrel Psalter

The Luttrell Psalter is a manuscript created by anonymous scribes and artists during the middle ages. This manuscript was commissioned by Sir Jeffery Luttrell a wealthy land owner at the time. It is an illuminated manuscript which means it is text decorated with pictures.

For example, this picture portrays 2 monks, a king, a queen and their servants.

They are having a feast and aren't looking very happy. They are eating a variety of items and the table appears to be in 2D just to show the items on it. This is one certain image from many others. The document and it's pictures show the daily life in the middle ages it also shows bible stories and includes a calendar. At the time, the monks and kings did not see eye to eye on who holds the seat of what power.

The Luttrell Psalter is a primary source document. This means that it is a picture or a document written from the time period itself. In this case the time period would've been between the 5th century and 15 century. This is a valuable document because some paintings might not survive and this shows the living of a period in history. We get details about the clothes, animals, professions and many other details from these elaborate paintings.

This document is unique because it was done hundreds or thousands of years ago. This would be priceless to a historian as they can find out facts about the time period it was written. This is also valuable it shows the feelings and expressions of the people at the time. It is valuable as it captures moments of time that it was created in and we can find out about the daily living of a person from the Middle Ages.

Otto Hauptmann's Vote

Otto Hauptmann works in a factory in Berlin.  His trade union has worked for better living conditions and a higher salary but he blames their lack of success on the 1923 inflation and the current depression.  He worries that he and his fellow workers are going to be fired due to the forced cut back production. He believes that some one who understands the working conditions should manage the governments and factories.

Due to those reason he would probably vote for the Social Democratic Party. This is perfect because…

1.     They create more jobs if he is cut he can get into another job.
2.     They will provide unemployment compensation for up to 6 months. This is also good so he can still fend for his family.
3.     They will cut government spending and lower taxes.
4.     They also believe in free speech.

"Anger and Humiliation" and the "Voices in the Dark"

Anger and Humiliation

Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party had a program that was anti-semitic and was intolerant to foreigners entering their country(Germany). Two of the most unfair aspects of this program in my opinion are:

  1.  German blood is the requirement for a German Citizenship and no Jew can be a member of the nation.
  2. Non-Germans can live in Germany as foreigners and are subject to law of "aliens".
I think they are unfair because they are blaming Jews for their mistakes and are creating separate laws for immigrants. They probably made it so as to make Germans higher than everybody else in all spheres . This law would justify Jews get thrown into concentration camps and foreigners being treated like mud. The Germans are also  to blame for their weakening economy since they could have positively used all their efforts to build their own country instead of concentrating on destroying others.

 Voices in the Dark

I wouldn't have said anything because my efforts would be futile against a bunch of  bulky evil people. But I t I would get angry and call for help from others nearby and gather a few others to stand against the racists if I can . A few  members of my family in the West do get checked twice or thrice as much as the others because of our nationality and race, but other wise our family is doing fine.

Religons

We visited 3 religious places for three different religions. The religions in the area are Hinduism, Islam, and Chinese. These different religions have a some similar practices and other different ones. All three of them have a place to sit and interact, bringing the community together. The main space in all of these houses of worship is alloted for praying.  They are different in some ways as in having different gods and some different practices. For e.g. in the mosque, only Muslims are allowed inside the prayer halls. In the Hindu Temple people have to wear the "sacred ash" on the forehead when offered by the priest. In the Chinese Temple believers use incense sticks while asking their Gods to grant their wishes.

Opposites

I chose these two photos as opposites because one is white and withered and the other is green and fresh. It also says that one is alive and the other is dead. One is lush and the other is dry.

I chose these two photos because one shows an artificial view and the other show a natural skyline. It also shows nature in its disturbed and untouched states.
